Kitten and Cat Adoption Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am having trouble logging in to the site or putting in an application. What would I do?

Please send us an email at catscaninc@gmail.com and we will do our best to help you.

Q: What vetting will the cat/kitten have at time of adoption?

A: All our cats and kittens are either spayed or neutered before being offered for adoption. They have also been tested for FELV and FIV, are microchipped, and have had their FVRCP vaccine (age appropriate) and rabies vaccine (if they are old enough).  All have been treated for fleas, dewormed and have had their nails trimmed.

Q: How do I trim my kitten's nails?

You can come to the Oviedo Petsmart any Saturday and we will show you how to trim your cat's claws. If you feel uncomfortable doing so we will do it for you and will do it for you any Saturday.

Q: Where are the kittens and cats located?

Cats-can does not have a shelter.  All our cats and kittens are housed in foster homes until they are adopted. This allows for more well-adjusted and happy cats and kittens. You can see all the kitties we have for adoption listed on our website.

Our weekly adoption event is held on most Saturdays at the Petsmart in Oviedo, 1115 Vidina Pl., across from the Oviedo Mall and just off SR 419 & Red Bug Rd. We are open some Sundays as well (check our Facebook page, Cats-Can, Inc., to see our current weekend hours).  If you are interested in seeing a particular cat or kitten, please put in an application first so we can contact you about him/her and arrange for that particular kitty to be brought to the Petsmart.

Q: I already have a cat at home and I've never introduced felines before. How do I introduce them?

We always recommend a slow introduction when new cats meet each other. At first, it can be a little scary having another cat come into their territory or going into another cat’s territory, but they will soon learn that they can be good friends!

Keep the kitties separated in two different rooms for the first couple of days. Let them get used to each other’s scents. Exchange beds and toys so they know the other kitty is around. Take a towel or blanket and rub one down with it and then rub the other kitty with it and vice versa.

Below are some awesome articles on how to introduce cats to one another. If you have any further questions, please email us.

Q: I'm not sure if my apartment is pet friendly. What do I do?

You can check this website to see if there is any info on your complex or home you are renting. If there is no information listed there please check your complex's website or give them a call.

If your apartment is not pet friendly then we're sorry, but we cannot adopt to you. We respect and follow the policies of your complex.

Additionally, you can use this website for tips on how to find a pet-friendly apartment.

Q: Can I bring my cat or dog to Petsmart to meet the new cat or kitten?

We would prefer that your animals meet their new family member in a quieter and more controlled environment. Please remember that when the kitties are at Petsmart there is a lot going on and it can be a bit frightening. This is not the best time for an introduction.

Q: I saw a photo on your website but the cat was not there when I came to Petsmart on Saturday. How can I meet him/her?

If you are interested in meeting a cat that you see on our web page, please put in an application for them through the adoption info link on the side. After we approve your application  we will arrange a time for you to meet. We do not have the space to bring all our cats to adoption events.

Q: How can I set up a meeting to see a cat or kitten?

If you would like to meet one of our cats or kittens, please put in an application. Once we have approved your application we will arrange a time for you to come meet the kitty.  Putting in an application does not obligate you to adopt the cat you chose but will give us all your contact information and help us to determine if a particular cat or kitten would be a good match for your household.

Q: If I am meeting a cat or kitten at Petsmart what should I bring?

Please bring a pet carrier to transport your cat or kitten safely home, lined with a small towel or blanket.  If choosing a kitten, we recommend you purchase a carrier large enough to hold a full-grown cat so they will not out-grow the carrier.  Soft-sided carriers are nice but are more difficult to clean.  We can provide a cardboard box if you are unable to bring a carrier.

Q: Can I just come to Petsmart on the weekend and adopt a kitten/ cat?

Yes, you can! Every Saturday and most Sundays we have a great selection of cats and kittens that come to the adoption event at the Oviedo Petsmart.

If you have a question that has not been answered please email us at kittyrescuetnr@gmail.com and we will be happy to help!
